The aftermath of the IRA bomb that destroyed Manchester city centre saw Bob involved in the restoration of the Corn Exchange and as Project Architect on the Arndale Centre.

Bob was involved in the team rebuilding the Arndale Centre and was project architect on the extension and new façade to Corporation Street. This was a highly complex technical exercise that involved a new escape strategy that integrated with the existing and also with the link bridge to Marks & Spencer across Corporation Street.

New Food Court – Arndale Centre, Manchester

Bob was project architect on this scheme that involved the creation of a food court at the upper level of the Centre bridging across Market Street. A new lift core was constructed from the basement service area to the food court level. New escalators were installed from the Mall below, whilst the existing escalator link from Market Street was refurbished and clad in planar glazing. All this work being carried out in a shopping centre which was open to the public throughout.

Pizza Hut/ARK – Arndale Centre, Manchester

Bob was project architect for the creation of two new units from the site of a former Public House. The existing mezzanine was demolished and new floor plates introduced with new lifts and stairs.

The Corn Exchange (now The Triangle), Manchester

Bob was part of the team involved in the restoration that was overseen by the task force set up by Manchester City Council and involved new glazing to the roof domes, new windows throughout and the provision of new lifts, stairs and escalators to form a new retail interior.
